The Touch the Water Promenade existed only on paper. Edmonton's riverfront recreation concept was still in design with no construction funding approved, and they needed residents to understand the vision well enough to have an opinion about it. Photoreal concept renders would have read like a decision already made, so we drew the whole thing by hand in order to invite conversation. The animation embodied the project's three themes, Ecology, Wellness and Celebration through the river valley: a restored ecosystem, recreational space, and gathering places that honour the area's Indigenous history. This campaign kept the future of the North Saskatchewan River Valley in active conversation and alive as a possibility in the minds of Edmontonians.
